Burning Gold in Twilight
Night view in winter season, with lights having just turned on, of the west and south sides of the magnificent five-domed Dormition (Assumption) Cathedral. Built of white limestone in 1158-1161 and reconstructed in 1185-1189, the cathedral includes a 56-meter (184 feet) bell tower with tall gilded spire that was added in 1810. The site is not far from a monument to the Russian Prince Vladimir the Saint in Vladimir city. Here the gilded domes of the cathedral and spire of the bell tower burn gold against the darkening blue winter sky.
