«Ruins of the Resurrection Church in December 1941»

At the end of November - beginning of December 1941 the German–Fascist invaders were able shortly to take Istra town located 50 km West from Moscow city. With regret to inform, in December 10 1941, Nazi special troops (sappers) blew all towers and temples of the great Voskresenskiy (Resurrection) monastery of New Jerusalem, leaving the Church of the Resurrection and most of the other structures in ruins. But the monastery was so highly valued that reconstruction began immediately after its recapture by the Red Army, in 1942.

Photo #063 taken on April 07, 2010 from a picture on information stand at the entrance into the "New Jerusalem" Resurrection monastery in Istra during Moscow countryside tour with my Dear clients from USA, Stuart & Virginia Mazarelli.
