«Relics of St. Innocent of Alaska and Icon of St. Sergius of Radonezh»

Silver shrine with relics of Saint Innocent of Alaska and Metropolitan of Moscow placed near a column with the big squared icon of St. Sergius of Radonezh inside the Dormition (Assumption) Cathedral in the Holy Trinity – St. Sergius Lavra in Sergiyev Posad. St. Innocent of Alaska lived in the 19th century (1787- 1879), he was a Russian Orthodox missionary priest, then the first Orthodox bishop and archbishop in the Americas, and finally the Metropolitan of Moscow and all Russia. St. Innocent is considered as patron for all who study foreign languages. St. Sergius of Radonezh is the Russian saint who lived in the 14th century and established the truly selfless “life equal to the angels”. St. Sergius founded the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Monastery, which embodies in its historical legacy his blessed precepts, and gradually became a kind of spiritual heart for all of Orthodox Russia.

Photo #036 taken on October 26, 2018 during countryside tour to Sergiyev Posad with my dear client from Cyprus/Romania, monk Andreas Matheou.
