At the height of Fame and Greatness - Monument to Marshal Zhukov
Impressive equestrian statue of Marshal of USSR, Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov, in front of the State Historical Museum at one winter night.
During the Great Patriotic War 1941-45 the great military commander led the Red Army to liberate the Soviet Union from Nazis’ occupation, to advance through much of Eastern Europe, and to conquer Germany's capital, Berlin. The monument to Georgy Zhukov on horseback was created by sculptor V.M. Klykov and unveiled on May 8, 1995 during celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Great Victory. It shows the great military leader accepting the Victory Parade that took place on a rainy June 24, 1945, over a month after May 9th, the day of Germany's surrender to Soviet commanders.
