Obelisk Pobedy (Victory Obelisk)

Obelisk of Victory (sculptor - Zurab Tsereteli) in the form of a bayonet has the height of 141.8 meters. It was installed in 1995 in front of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War. At the foot of the obelisk on granite podium - is a statue of George the Victorious spearing a dragon. The height represents the 1,418 days and nights of war. At an altitude of 100 meters to the stele mounted a 25-ton bronze statue of the goddess of victory Nikа, figures of angels, trumpeting the glory of Russian arms. Both sculptures were executed by Zurab Tsereteli. A statue of the goddess Nikа increased the instability of the monument, its wind resistance, so in the construction of the foundation it was needed to fill about 2000 cubic meters with concrete. Stele was mounted using telescopic towers. To service the stele there was installed an elevator (booked in Sweden), which rises to 87 meters height.
