Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery is one of the spiritual roots of Russia located in the old Russian town of Zvenigorod, 48 km west of Moscow. The monastery was founded in 1398 by a monk Sava, a disciple of St. Sergius of Radonezh, at the request and with the support of Zvenigorod Prince George Dmitrievich. Preserved in nowadays the magnificent architectural ensemble of the monastery was built in mid of 17th century on the money commissioned from Tsar Alexis (Aleksey Mikhailovich), father of Peter the Great, who often made with his family pilgrimage to the holy land of Zvenigorod.
