Multi-Purpose Armored Truck "Typhoon-K" 6x6 on Tverskaya
Multi-purpose armored truck KAMAZ-63968 "Typhoon-K" 6x6 on Tverskaya street in couple of hours before beginning the night rehearsal of Victory Day military parade on Red Square in Moscow to commemorate the 71th anniversary of the capitulation of Nazi Germany in 1945.
Russian airborne troops together with the Defense Company "KAMAZ" has developed the new 6x6 multi-functional, modular, armored, mine resistant MRAP vehicle KAMAZ-63968 Typhoon-K K able to be airdropped and provides protection against new threats of modern battlefield as IEDs and mine blast. The Typhoon family is part of Russia's Typhoon program launched in 2010. Both Kamaz and Gaz-Group are taking part in Typhoon program and develop their own family of vehicles.
The Kamaz-63968 has a hydro pneumatic suspension and is designed to be used on any types of roads and terrain. This armored truck is motorized with a 450 hp KAMAZ 740.354-450 V8 turbocharged diesel engine coupled to a Allison six-speed automatique transmission. The vehicle is also fitted with central tire inflation system and run-flat tires and has a full-time all-wheel drive.
The battlefield was never a safe place, but technology has increased the danger. A modern army division or air force wing has 10 times the combat power of its World War II equivalent. This increase is the result of changes in the physical characteristics of weapons. But in addition to increasing available fire power, technology produces qualitative changes in the relationships among air, land, and sea power.
The Russian airborne troops understand that they need a new philosophy regarding its acquisition of military equipment and armored vehicles. Airborne troops must have more mobility and need wheeled armored vehicle.
