70 years of “SMERSH” – The Death to Spies

From May until August 2013 in the Central Museum of Armed Forces was held special and unique exhibition dedicated to 70th anniversary of founding the Head Department of Military Counterintelligence under the name “SMERSH”.

“SMERSH” (short for Smert Shpionam, or "Death to Spies") was a counterintelligence department in the Soviet Union formed during the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 (World War II). Later it was used by the KGB to hunt down spies and subversive elements outside of the USSR.
