Salute to Veterans - EMERCOM Memorial
The memorial to EMERCOM (Emergency Control Ministry or Ministry of Emergency Situations) veterans in Moscow at Kremenchugskaya street was opened on May 4th, 2012 in time of 67th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). The monument was created in traditionally realistic technique by honored artist of Russia, professor of Academy of Arts, Sergey Scherbakov. In center of composition is a figure of old man with great number of orders and medals. A prototype of the veteran became president of veteran organization of EMERCOM, veteran of war, Dmitry Michailic. Nearby him is sitting on a bench a small cute girl (that detail is very familiar with memorial to veterans in Tambov city), and a boy in veteran’s peaked cap salutes to the old soldier, that symbolize generational continuity. Today EMERCOM has 519 veterans’ organizations, with almost 4 thousand veterans of the Great Patriotic War as members.
