«Luzhniki Stadium - IAAF World Championships 2013 in Moscow»
Overview Luzhniki Olympic Stadium from Sector D1 at the beginning of another day of World Athletics Championships in Moscow. The stadium was built in 1955-1956 as the Lenin Central Stadium, and was officially opened on 31 July 1956. It was the chief venue for the 1980 Summer Olympics, the spectator capacity being 103,000 at that time. It is the biggest sports stadium in Russia. Its total seating capacity is 78,360 seats, all covered (upgraded). I and my clients from USA came to the stadium early morning that day to support their daughter, Shannon Rowbury, who run the first women's 5000 meters heat for qualifying mark.
