Church of Our Lady of Kazan
The Church of Our Lady of Kazan in Kolomenskoye is one of the most spectacular churches outside historical center of Moscow city. A wooden church on this site was built in the royal summer countryside residence in the 1630s during the reign of Tsar Mikhail Feodorovich and consecrated to one of the most respected in Russia icon of the Theotokos of Kazan. According to the beliefs of many Russian tsars from the Romanov dynasty, they managed to ascend the throne thanks to the protection of this icon. The temple was rebuilt in stone by his son Tsar Alexis Mikhailovich in 1651. The Church of Kazan Icon of Mother God is crowned with five striking blue onion-shaped domes with golden stars. The church was connected to the wooden Palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich built in 1667 by a passage gallery.
