Church of St. George the Victorious

The golden-domed Orthodox Church of Saint George the Victorious on Poklonnaya Hill in Victory Park was erected on the hilltop in 1993-95 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Great Victory of Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945. The temple was consecrated on May 9, 1995, the Victory Day. The Neo-Russian style church is reminiscent of the main commander of the Second World War (WWII) Georgy Zhukov, whose heavenly patron was St. George.
