Peredelkino is the prosperous little village of colorful dachas just half an hour drive South-West from the Moscow city center. In 1934, by the suggestion of Maxim Gorky, Peredelkino became the settlement of the famous Soviet Writers treated personally by the Leader of USSR, Joseph Stalin. Within several years, about fifty wooden cottages were constructed in Peredelkino by writers to German designs.
It is the most famous as being the countryside retreat of the author of Dr. Zhivago, Boris Pasternak. Pasternak is not the only Russian luminary to have settled here, the village also contains the former home of celebrated Soviet translator and children’s author Korney Chukovsky as well as the summer residence of the late Patriarch Alexei II.
Near the summer residence of Russian Patriarch, the unique stone cathedral was consecrated by His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All-Russia Kirill on June 17, 2012. The onion-shaped cupolas of the beautiful church resemble the famous domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral on the Red Square. It was covered with porcelain using special new technologies that were developed in St. Petersburg.
