«Golden Tsar's Gate of the Dormition Church»

The gilded Tsar's Gate (Holy Gate, Royal Doors) is a central part of the beautiful ceramic iconostasis of the Dormition (Assumption Church) covered with beautiful glazed tiles. The church is one of many side-chapels of the Resurrection Cathedral in New Jerusalem Monastery in Istra. Its entrance is located on the north side of the cathedral. The Dormition side-chapel was consecrated by Patriarch of Moscow and All-Russia Nikon in 1664. Icons of Archangel Michael, Virgin Mary and Four Evangelists, Mark, Luke, John, and Matthew are usually to be found on a Tsar’s Gate as a part of iconostasis (icon stand) in Russian Orthodox Church.
