On June 13, 1988 Patriarch Pimen consecrated laying of the foundation stone to build the cathedral in honor of 1000 anniversary (988-1988) of Baptism of Holy Rus. Construction of the Holy Trinity cathedral was postponed almost on 15 years in favor of another famous and important project - reconstruction of Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
