Saviour Cathedral

The extant white-stone Saviour Cathedral was constructed from 1420–1427. It is four-pillared church, one of the oldest surviving stone edifices in Moscow. The great medieval painter Andrey Rublev spent the last years of his life at the monastery. He painted the Icon of the Savior Not-Made-by-Hands that can be seen above the entrance gate of the cathedral. Unfortunately, all medieval frescoes in Saviour Cathedral were lost. Rublev was buried here in 1430.
