«Beautiful Former Kharitonenko Estate in Spring Twilight»

Evening view from Sofiyskaya embankment on the beautiful homestead built in 1891-1893 by the order of the famous industrialist, owner of sugar plants Pavel Ivanovich Kharitonenko (Ukrainian origin). It was designed in Renaissance and Baroque styles by the project of architect Vasily Gerasimovich Zaleski. With a perfect location in front of Moscow Kremlin, at another side of Moskva River, in the present time, the luxury estate serves as the residence of the Ambassador of Great Britain.

Over the years, many British politicians and diplomats stayed here. Winston Churchill, Harold Macmillan, Margaret Thatcher are amongst them. Britain's Queen Elizabeth II stayed here during her official visit to Russia in 1994. Other members of the English Royal family visited the house at different times: Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Diana Princess of Wales.

NOTE: This building you can see during tours of the Moscow Kremlin (in a distance from the fortress), Moscow walking city tour, and exciting 3-hour Moscow by Night tour.
