Russian Girl with Bells Celebrating Maslenitsa
Portrait of a pretty smiling girl with bells wearing the traditional Russian shawl with floral patterns on her head. The picture was taken at Ploshchad Revolutsii (Square of Revolution) in Moscow, not far from the Red Square, during the celebration of Maslenitsa, the passing of Winter with seven days of festivities.
Maslenitsa (also known as Butter Week, Crepe week, or Cheesefare Week) is an Eastern Slavic religious and folk holiday, celebrated during the last week before Great Lent, that is, the eighth week before Eastern Orthodox Pascha (Easter).
