«Maslenitsa Decorations and St. Basil’s Cathedral at Night»

Night view of the beautiful illuminated decorations and street lights on Manezhnaya square in the background of St. Basil’s Cathedral during Maslenitsa (butter or pancake week). Instead of Christmas balls, the artificial fir trees decorated with colored ribbons, images of wandering minstrel-cum-clowns and suns, the symbol of the ancient Russian holiday. Pancakes are the traditional Maslenitsa food because it symbolizes the sun.
