Nativity Cathedral with Blue Domes in Summer
«Nativity Cathedral with Blue Domes in Summer»

View from an earthen rampart on the ancient cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin with beautiful onion-shaped blue cupolas (domes) on the background of a cloudy sky on a summer day. The church was constructed in 1225. It is the most impressive and oldest church in Suzdal. The lower section of the cathedral made of porous tufa and carved white stone has survived from the original building. The upper part was rebuilt in brick in 1530. In 1750 the church was given onion-shaped domes. The Nativity Cathedral of Our Lady is the unique monument of Old Russian architecture and it is inscribed in the World Heritage list of UNESCO.
