Image of the Old Testament Trinity above the Monastery Gateway

The gateway of the church of St. John the Baptist (1696) at the entrance into the Holy Trinity Lavra is adorned with fresco paintings dedicated to the life of St. Sergius, the founder of the monastery, spiritual center of Russia.

Above the gates, on the way out from the monastery, can be seen a copy of the famous Old Testament Trinity icon created by Andrey Rublev, the famous Russian icon painter, at the beginning of 15th century specially for the Cathedral of Holy Life-giving Trinity when it was rebuilt in stone in 1422-25.
