Bell Tower

One of the tallest bell towers in Russia was erected in 18th century on Cathedral Square - the main square of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra (the name 'Lavra' denotes the highest rank of Orthodox monasteries in Russia and other countries). This unique tower was designed by architects Shumacher and Uhtomsky and the construction lasted from 1740 to 1770 during the reign of two empresses, Elizabeth and Catherine the Great.
