Archway with Angels

Archway with Angels
«Archway with Angels»

Fragment of magnificent interior decorations of Dormition Cathedral (Uspensky Sobor, Assumption cathedral) in Goritsky monastery with the arch of western gate and angels on a wall above it. The interior of the church built in the middle of the 18th century during the reign of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna (daughter of Peter the Great) displays a lavish decorative style in the late Baroque manner of Bartolomeo Rastrelli, author of the Winter Palace and other masterpieces in St. Petersburg. Another source is the work of Dmitry Ukhtomsky, a Baroque master active in the Moscow area. Unfortunately, these masterpieces are not in good condition and extensive restoration needed.
