Fragment of the Splendid Mosaics from 6th century Basilica
p>Floors of the early Christian basilicas were lavishly decorated with splendid mosaics, fragments of which survived in Chersoneses. Thanks to archaeological research in this town. scientists have discovered ancient mosaics that dated all the way back to 6th century AD. These mosaics were placed under a special canopy in order to protect them, where they can still be viewed to this day. The ancient mosaics were made from marble, ceramics and colored limestone. The combination of multicolored geometric ornaments and subject images on it is characteristic of the early Christian art.
