«Kolomenskoye Church and Bell Tower in the Circle of Light»

View in a distance on the most significant attractions of Kolomenskoye Estate built in the 16th century, Ascension Church and St. George the Victorious Bell Tower, illuminated during Moscow International Festival “Circle of Light”. The exceptional Church of the Ascension was built in white stone to commemorate the long-awaited birth of an heir to the throne, the future Ivan the Terrible. Being the first stone church of tent-like variety, the uncanonical "White Column" (as it is sometimes referred to) marked a stunning break from the Byzantine tradition. The rounded bell tower was built n the first half of 16th century by an unknown Italian architect in the place of a more ancient wooden church of the Kolomenskoye village and served as the belfry of the Ascension Church.
