«Spring Flowers in the Courtyard of the Grand Palace»

Flowerbed with colorful spring flowers in the courtyard of the Grand Palace in Arkhangelskoye Estate. The entrance arch with the wings of the palace is in the background of the picture. In one of the wings was placed art gallery and library of Prince Yusupov, in another – kitchen with accommodation for his serfs.

The Great Palace in Arkhangelskoye Estate was designed by French architect Charles de Guerne (1748-1789) and constructed by Russian masters in 1786-1790. After the war of 1812, when the Palace was damaged by Napoleon troops, the best at that time Russian architects, Osip Bove, Stepan Melnikov, E. Turin and I. Zhukov provided a great restoration works.
