Pavel Mikhaylovich Tretyakov (1832-1898)

Collector. Founder of the Tretyakovskaya gallery in Moscow. Since 1856 started collecting Russian fine arts works. Supported the innovative democratic art. Supported painters of the «Wanderers» group. In 1982 he presented his and his brothers (works of West-European artists) unique collections to the city of Moscow. Originally was buried at the St. Daniel’s monastery. In 1947 reburied at the Novodevichy cemetery. Since the time of Ivan III the Great (15th century), Red Square square has been the scene of great public events, mainly political - rallies, demonstrations, and processions. In earlier times, Red Square was also a place of execution. In the second half of the 20th century, in the time of "cold war", the square was famous to the World with military parades which were provided every year by the Communist Party to show the might of the USSR.
