«The Main Entrance to the Working Residence of the President»

In present time, the former Senate building serves as the official working residence of the President of Russia. The main entrance into the building was constructed according to the designs of a prominent Russian architect Matvei Kazakov in 1776-1788, with its western fa?ade was decorated with a pair of bronze female statues representing the “Justice and Piety”. The architect worked in so-called “Moscow Classical” style and created the building in the shape of a triangle (three main sides) and large courtyard divided in three sections. The main reason for such a shape of the building was limits of the land on the grounds of the Kremlin and leaving some space for a small park on the Senate square.

In the background of the picture is rising spire with red star of Nikolskaya Tower (St. Nicholas Tower) of Moscow Kremlin. From other side of the Kremlin wall and tower is located the Red Square.
