Vysotsky Monastery is located at the southern end of old Serpukhov. Its name came from the raised, vysoky, position above the Nara river. The monastery is an ancient establishment, founded in 1373 by Prince Vladimir Khabry (The Brave) and Sergius Radonezh whose follower, Afanasy, became the first abbot.

Foros

Foros is a settlement founded and named by medieval Greek merchants. Located almost in the middle between Yalta and Sevastopol, Foros was rediscovered in the late 19th century by Alexander Kuznetsov, Moscow merchant, a Russian "tea king" who had his palace built on the sea shore.
