«Back of Holy Sepulcher Chapel under Roof of Resurrection Church»

View from the back (altar part) of the Holy Sepulcher Chapel with the icon of Our Lady of the Sign under the huge stone-tented roof in rotunda of Resurrection Cathedral of the Resurrection New Jerusalem (Voskresensky) Monastery in Istra.

The original Cathedral was founded in 1656 by church reformer Patriarch Nikon and was intended to resemble a cathedral by the same name in Jerusalem. Unfortunately on the 10th December, 1941 Nazi special troops (sappers) destroyed all the towers and temples of the great Voskresenskiy (Resurrection) monastery, leaving the Church of the Resurrection and most of the other structures in ruins. The Cathedral of the Resurrection was reopened in 2015 after extensive restoration works started in 2009.
