The architectural ensemble of a winter church of Nicholas and a summer church of Saints Peter and Paul is located on a small hill outside the Pokrovsky Convent (Intercession convent) at the low bank of river Kamenka. The prettier of the two churches is Ss Peter and Paul's Church - the summer church - which was built in 1694 and is a standard cube building with five tall domes.

Olearius’ Travels in Muscovy, Tartary, and Persia

The first edition of Olearius' account of his travels was published in 1649. The book is opened on the page with the engraving Ride on a Donkey showing a religious procession on Palm Sunday. Adam Olearius (1599-1671) was a German scholar, mathematician, geographer and librarian.
