«Inside Refectory Chamber - The Way to St. Sergius Church»

Magnificent interior of the main Refectory Chamber with the entrance into the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra (Sergiyev Posad, 70 km North-East from Moscow). The Refectory with the church dedicated to the founder of the main monastery in Russia was erected by order of Peter I (The Great) in 1686-1692. The huge construction of the Refectory, which used to be the largest hall in Russia without pillars (intermediate support), is 86 meters long and with the area of 510 square meters and it was intended for sumptuous ceremonies and receptions.

Photo #003 taken on October 26, 2018 during countryside tour to Sergiyev Posad with my dear client from Cyprus/Romania, monk Andreas Matheou.
