«Gilded Panikadilo and Ceiling Decoration of the Refectory»

Interior of the Refectory chruch after restoration works 2014-2015 marking the 700th Anniversary of the birth of Saint Sergius, the founder of the Holy Trinity Lavra, the most important monastery in Russia and the spiritual center of Russian Orthodox Church.

The Refectory building with Church of St. Sergius was built at the end of 17th century in the "Moscow Baroque" style on money commissed from Peter the Great. The interior of the church reflects especially vivid and artistic forms of traditional art that attained decorative quality characteristic to that time and the style of baroque. Panikadilo (Greek term) is a large church chandelier hanging from the ceiling.

Photo #108 taken on August 08, 2015 during countryside tour to Sergiev Posad with my dear clients from USA, Simon and Sheri Loadsman.
