Eastern Side of the Church of the Holy Ghost
«Eastern Side of the Church of the Holy Ghost»

View from a small local cemetery on the eastern side of the graceful Church of the Holy Ghost. At this side is located altar (sanctuary) in Orthodox churches (can be distinguished by featured three apses on the wall. This church was built in 1476 by several Pskovian masters personally invited to Moscow, Sergiyev Posad by Grand Prince of Moscow Ivan III The Great. The church of the Decent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles is one of the few remaining examples of a Russian church topped with bell tower. Every morning and evening before service starts in Lavra, a monk (bell ringer) climbs a long ladder attached to the wall to ring the bells (there is no any staircase leading to the belfry inside the church).

Photo #023 taken on July 17, 2016 in Sergiyev Posad during a long-distance countryside tour to the towns of the Golden Ring of Russia with my dear clients from USA, Andrew and Karen Green.
