Bright Beauty Against the Grey Sky

Bright Beauty Against the Grey Sky
«Bright Beauty Against the Grey Sky»

A view of the green roofs of monastic buildings and cupolas with crosses on the grounds of Spaso-Yakovlevsky monastery in background of a cloudy sky.

The yellow bulbous dome covered with wooden shingles with cross is the top of a tent a holy water spring in the yard of the monastery.

The silver onion-shaped cupolas with crosses belong to another ancient temple in Rostov land preserved until present time, the Cathedral of the Savior's Transfiguration (Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral), built in 1680s. Once, the cathedral was the main building of the abolished Spaso-Pesotsky Monastery, founded by princess Maria of Rostov in memory of her husband, prince Vasilko Konstantinovich, after his death in a battle against tatars on the Sit River in 1238.
