A Way to Nikolsky Cathedral

«A Way to Nikolsky Cathedral»

The view on Nikolsky Sobor (St. Nicholas Cathedral) from a corner of the two-story monastic building with cells for nuns. This is the main church of St. Nicholas convent that was built on the site of the former cathedral that was knocked dawn in Soviet times after revolution. The restoration of St. Nicholas cathedral started in 1999 by design of the architect V. Izhikov and finished in 2003. The main church of the sanctuary now does not keep its original shape before demolishing, but closely resembles the image of the magnificent Assumption Cathedral of the Kievsko-Pechorskaya Lavra. Today, admiring a beautiful ensemble of the Nicola Convent it is not easy to believe that it endured more devastation than any other Pereslavl sanctuary in the years when the religion was not in favor.

Photo #476 taken on June 08, 2014 during long distance countryside tour of the Golden Ring of Russia towns, Pereslavl-Zallesky and Sergiyev Posad, with my Dear client from USA, Jan Squires.
