New Jerusalem
New Jerusalem Resurrection Monastery is unique architectural and park monument on the Istra River located about 50 km from Moscow city. It was founded at the middle of 17th century by the ambitious Patriarch Nikon as "Russian Palestine". It was modelled on Jerusalem even to the extent of ranaming the Istra River the Jordan and the garden, Gethsemane, with the exact copy of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher with its topography and relics. In December 10 1941, German special troops blew all towers and temples of the monastery. The complex was absolutely destroyed. All buildings that you will see on my pictures now are a result of reconstruction, which has been going on nowadays.
