Red Square
The Red Square is a symbol of Russia. In its architectural ensemble it is considered to be one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. Through the ages it changed its name many times and only in the 17th century it received its present name "Krasnaya" - Red, which in old Russian meant - "Beautiful".

Birthday of Stalin & Snowfalls

Red Square, Stalin birthday, snowfall

The 21st of December is the birthday of Stalin, who was the leader of USSR in the middle of 20th century and died at 1953. On this date at 2005 I was walking with my clients nearby the Red Square, which was closed by this occasion, but fortunately I had a chance to make several photos of the people (mostly old generation) who came here to put flowers to the tomb of Stalin near Kremlin wall and Lenin's Mausoleum (tomb). From the distance it seemed like that the communists were trying to take Kremlin back to Soviet times :-). The people hold the red banners with symbols of USSR and portraits of Stalin.

During last winter were a lot of snowfalls in Moscow and even extremely cold temperatures at the end of January (-30...-35 C). On this picture you can see the Red Square during the real Russian winter and snowfall, which lasted several days.

PS: How it looks different if to compare with current winter of 2006-2007 - still no snow in Moscow in middle of January! Just incredible and unusual!

With BEST Regards,
Arthur Lookianov
