Moscow Buildings
Photos of famous Moscow buildings; houses with interesting architecture, buildings of Moscow airports; railway stations, theaters of Moscow and more other buildings...
Hotel Ukraina (Ukraine) is one of 7 Moscow skyscrapers, which were built by Stalin order in Moscow in 1950s. Built in 1957, the building stands on the bank of the Moskva-river, and is situated in the very heart of the administrative and trade centre of Moscow. The height of the 30-stored hotel is 206 meters including the 73-meter steeple. This big hotel has more then 1 thousand comfortable rooms and suits which preserve the unique furniture, pictures and bronze lamps of the 50's, from the times of Stalin Epoch. On the top of this hotel you can find observation room, where you can see cityscapes of Moscow city from the level of "bird flight" (good news for photographers :)).
I like this building, it is not big as like Moscow State University, but with the same architecture style has some elegance and charm in its details.
Some interesting info about it:
- Muscovites call these buildings "Stalin's Skyscrapers" (Stalinskie Vysotki)
- Architectural Style - I've heard several terms: Soviet Classicism, Totalitarian Style, Wedding Cake
- Construction of Seven Skyscrapers started officially on the date of celebration 800 anniversary of the city in 1947, it was gift from Stalin to make new style to Moscow city after 1930s, when Bolsheviks destroyed a lot of buildings of Old Moscow, as like it's monasteries, churches, palaces...
- On the right side of this picture you can see the monument to the famous Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, which was established in 1974.
