Moscow Kremlin
The Kremlin is the stronghold of Moscow and its historical center. Most of the city had been inside the Kremlin walls until the 16th century. Afterwards, the Kremlin became the official Tsars residence with just several most powerful nobles and a head of the Orthodox church, who lived inside. Italian architects built the present Kremlin fortifications at the end of the 15th century. Moscow Kremlin fortress was one of the most fortified in Europe, even more than the ones in Milan and Krakow. The red brick walls with 20 towers were never captured by the enemies.
Here is a view on the towers and famous Cathedral of Christ the Savoir from the Kremlin. I took this photo in autumn 2005 nearby the Grand Kremlin Palace, several steps from the Annunciation Cathedral.
You can see here that the Kremlin, as stronghold of Moscow city, is located on a hill (named Borovitsky) and on the bank of Moskva-Reka (Moscow-River) following all rules from medieval times about good locations for fortresses. So, here you can see how city looks nowadays not so far from the Cathedral's Square where Moscow was founded at 1147.
I like this view and composition...If you glance on it more thoughtfully, it is not doubt, that you can find 3 (three) symbols from different epochs here: star, cross and.. symbol of Mercedes.. :). By the way, the symbol of Mercedes is placed on the roof of a very famous building "House on Embankment", which is also well-known from the novel "Master and Margarita" by Bulgakov...
