Vladimir and Suzdal
These old Russian towns that belong to the so-called Golden Ring and are about 3 hours drive from Moscow. Suzdal was founded in 1024 and despite its age remained young and beautiful as a fairytale. It stands along the banks of the Kamenka River and the scenery gives you an idea of the boundless expanses of Russia. Vladimir is one of the most ancient and beautiful cites of Russia. The ancient town Vladimir is located about 30 miles to the south of Suzdal. It was founded by Prince Vladimir Monomakh in 1108 and soon became the capital of the region thanks to the sacred icon of Our Lady, which once had been brought from Constantinople. In the middle of the twelfth century, under Andrew Bogolliubsky, Vladimir become the center of North-Eastern Russia and later grew into the main city of the entire Russia.
The view on the beautiful domes of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin, which is located in Kremlin of Suzdal. These domes looks very imressive and magnetic...
The Nativity Cathedral is the principal temple of Suzdal and one of the latest monuments of the pre-Mongol architecture of the land of Vladimir and Suzdal. It was built inside the Kremlin between 1222 and 1225. Both its exterior and interior design are beautiful. Its facades are decorated with intricate ornaments From the mid 14ththrough the 18th centuries, Suzdal was the center of the eparchy of the Eastern Christian Church and its bishop resided in the Suzdal Kremlin.
One of the important features of the Cathedral is the harmonious combination with surrounding landscape. It stood on the site of the older building erected by Vladimir Monomach quite near to the northern ramparts of the fortress, with its south and east walls facing the town square.
At present the cathedral is under restorations and the rare things from inside were transferred into the bell-tower.
In 1993 the cathedral appears in the UNESCO's cultural list.
