A view on The Red Gates

In the middle of this composition you can see the handsome Krasnye Vorota (Red Gates), which were the main entrance into the Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery before the tall and thick walls with towers were erected around it. Behind the gates, the very decorative tent-roofed church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1652 by N. Sheremetyeva. Her parents and relatives are buried in the lower chamber. On the right hand of the Red Gates, behind the trees, you can see the part of "Tsarina's Chambers". And the last building, which you can see in the middle of background, is the main watch tower with wooden roof. This tower was used as the main entrance from East side after the construction of new fortifications had been finished around monastery in 1650-1654.
