  • About the Airports (briefly):

There are two main International Airports in Moscow – Sheremetievo (SVO) and Domodedovo (DMO)
You can see some related photos to Airports in my PhotoGallery.

Most international flights arrive at Sheremetyevo-2 airport (35 km from downtown). It was built for the 1980 Olympics Games, and for a city of 10 million-plus, it's tiny. This airport has had very little renovation, and is rather dim and crowded.

Domodedovo is about 50 km from Downtown of Moscow, Kremlin is new reconstructed airport. Domodedovo is a modern passenger terminal offering its clients European class services. The airport airdrome is considered to be the best in equipment and infrastructure. Accident prevention in air has top priority in East Line Group. Now it is one of the safest airports in the country.

    Arrival:

On the descent into Moscow you will be asked to complete a customs declaration form which you will present to customs. Click here to see full sized pictures of declaration form. Travelers must declare all items of value on a customs form; the same form used during arrival in Russia must be presented to customs officials at the time of departure.

    Passport Control:

When you get off your plane you will be directed to Passport Control. Passport Control takes a minimum of 20 minutes for foreigners, but usually the time is 45 minutes. After your passport and visa stamped by Passport Control, you will collect your luggage from baggage claim. Carts are available to carry your luggage on. If you need additional help luggage handlers are available for a few dollars (you must pay in rubles). There is also a bank near the baggage claim area to exchange some money into rubles. The exchange rate at the airport is usually very low, therefore don't change more than US$20.

    Customs:

After you collect your bags, you will stand in line for Customs. The lines usually here move faster than Passport Control. If you have a reasonable amount of luggage, they will rarely check the contents of your bags. Be sure to declare all money you are carrying and hold on to your customs declaration until you depart, otherwise you will not be permitted to leave the country with more than US$3,000 (as of March 15, 2003 ). Lost or stolen customs forms should be reported to the Russian police, and a police report (spravka) should be obtained to present to customs officials upon departure.

    Meeting at the Arrivals Hall:

Once you get through customs, you will walk out into the arrivals hall where I will be waiting for you. The average time to pass all controls is 30 - 40 min., but sometimes (if many flights landed in one time) it could takes 1 hour and more. Don't worry I am will be there waiting for you. To easy recognize each other among meeting people at the airport I'll hold your NAME CARD in my hands. In emergency case you can also make a phone call on my mobile number.

Soft Landing (Russian saying) and see you soon in Moscow!

I needed to send my wife and daughter to Moscow. Neither of them had ever been there and we all three were worried. After speaking with Arthur a few times I felt he could be trusted and even felt somewhat comfortable paying him in advance and using his services. When they arrived he met them at the airport. He drove them to their hotel and even showed them the area around the hotel. He himself contacted me to let me know they had arrived safely. I was glad I had trusted him with my two most valuable treasures
and would recommend anyone could do the same.
Months after that, my wife, daughter and I met in Moscow. Naturally and without any hesitation I called on his services again. Since we were arriving at different airports and at different times I was concerned, but he as before eased my mind by taking care of all the arrangements in Moscow for us. He picked the up at their airport, brought them to mine and patiently waited with them. During my visit to Moscow I had hired him numerous times and I was overwhelmed by his courtesy, his knowledge of the city and its vast history, and his willingness to help in any way he could. This was the best sightseeing excursion I had ever been on and the fact that his English was impeccable, and this made it that much better. I will use his services any and every time I am in Moscow. I would highly recommend to anyone going to Moscow, even if you have been there before he can make your stay the most pleasant. Believe me please, he is one man you must know in Moscow.
    Truly sincere
    Marty
